The Chantry Centre

Record number of entries!

At this year's fabulous Cam and Dursley Flower & Produce Show we had 81 people enter and over 380 individual exhibits - a huge increase on previous years!

We had so many exhibits that we had to expand into a second room at the Chantry Centre as we ran out of space in the Lister Hall! Despite the poor summer weather, there were lots of exhibits in the Flowers section, and the Crafts and Under 17's sections were also well attended. In only it's second year in the Show, Photography proved popular and this will probably be expanded into it's own section next year. It was lovely to see so many people entering the show, and we had many entering for the first time this year.

As in previous years, we had seven sections and the winners were:

  • Flowers: a 3 way tie between Symon Ackroyd, Ivy Jones, Jo Fearns

  • Fruit and Veg: Sandra Speak

  • Baking: Mim Chapman

  • Preserves and Home Produce: Mim Chapman

  • Beer and Wine: Symon Ackroyd

  • Craft and Photography: Lesley Grey

  • Children Under 10: Freya Pegler

  • Children 11 - 17: Rowan Allen

  • Overall Winner: Sandra Speak (32 points)

  • Second: Symon Ackroyd (31 points)

Dursley Mayor Alex Stennett was on hand to present the awards to those who had gained the most points in each section.

As well as the fabulous display of exhibits in the hall, visitors were entertained by Choral group Nota-Bene who sang on the stage and then again out in the garden. The Garden Cafe served delicious homemade cakes and savoury tarts for lunch and there were pizzas from the wood fired oven, and freshly cooked burgers in the garden. The weather was kind to us this year and it was lovely to see visitors enjoying the garden to chat and eat.

Helen Judge, Cam and Dursley Flower & Produce Show organiser expressed her thanks to all involved, "I would like to send out a huge thank you to The Chantry Centre for hosting this community event, and to all the volunteers who gave their time and effort to make the show a success, we couldn't do it without them."
